Zuzka Markova has maintained a keen interest in social issues, having studied history and religious studies at the Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic). These issues feature strongly in her early projects such as the Kurdish Man in London and Radovanje about the impact of Radovan Karadzices on the people of Belgrade which competed at IDFA.
In 2013 she made a TV programme The Art of Cinematography at Plus Camerimage, introducing the festival and presenting the audience with an insight to the craft of cinematography. This experience was an inspiration for her to start working on a documentary about the cinema of Visegrad countries - finding her roots and identity she's been travelling for 5 years back and forward and filming interviews for Wizards from the East.
